Kerala style onion Fritters | Crispy Ulli vada


Today's recipe is a traditional snack  ullivada( Onion fritters ,Onion vada).The main ingredients is Onion.it is a street food of kerala.it is a crispy and crunchy  snack.Onion fritters very easy to make with few minutes.In kerala we can see ullivada in every street food stalls.Its good combination during rainy season with hot tea.My mother always makes ullivada when i come back from school in the evening.So i love ullivada since my childhood.Onion fritters is a instant snack.Onion fritters made with finely  sliced onion.Then add finely chopped ginger ,green chillies,curryleaves ,then mix well until the water comes from the onion.Onion fritters prepared with besan or gram flour.You can also add rice powder to become crispy. Also you can make this by adding all purpose flour or maida instead of rice flour.I like very much the flavor of besan or gram flour. Prepare onion fritters for your kids,they definitely like it.Ullivada goes well with tomato ketup and tea.

Ingredients:

Onion                      -4(sliced)
Green chillies         -3( chopped)
Curryleaves            -3 sprigs(chopped)
Ginger                     - 2 tsp( chopped)
Gram flour              -5 tbsp
All purpose flour    -5 tbsp
Salt to taste
Oil for deep frying

Preparation:
1. In a mixing bowl, add  finely sliced onion, finely chopped curryleaves, finely chopped ginger and green chillies and required salt .then mix well with hands until the water comes from the onion.cover and keep aside for 15 minutes .
2. After resting,add gram flour and all purpose flour(maida) and mix well.
3. Heat oil in a pan for deep frying, when oil becomes hot enough,keep the flame to medium.
4. Take a small portion and make it a ball and drop into oil and fry it.
5. Fry until both sides turn golden brown.then strain it.
6. Serve onion vada with any chutneys and tea. 

 It is very suitable in this rainy season.Try this recipe for your evening snack with a cup of hot tea or coffee.you need only few ingredients.Serve this authentic snack with mint chutney or tomato ketchup.

Tips:- 
* Onion fritters should be prepare with finely sliced onion.
*Don' t add much water to make ullivada dough.prepare with the water comes from the onion.
*Onion fritter Should be fry on the medium heat.
